ICPHSO’s 2020 Annual Meeting and Training Symposium is less than a month away and the agenda is packed with plenary and breakout sessions, as well as networking breaks, that every safety professional should find useful. We are fortunate again to be able to hear from leadership and staff from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission who will highlight their activities on Thursday morning as well as participating in various sessions throughout the week. Our Thursday keynote luncheon speaker will the Acting CPSC Chairman, Robert (Bob) Adler, who has been a long time speaker and supporter of ICPHSO. Acting Chairman Adler was instrumental in assisting us with our first strategic plan in the earliest days of ICPHSO, and attendees are fortunate to be able to hear from him in his role as Acting Chairman.
We are also happy to announce that we have moved the Safety Jeopardy game from a breakout session to our keynote luncheon presentation on Wednesday. The game will be moderated by former ICPHSO Board Member and President, John Kupsch, and will include three teams vying for top ICPHSO prizes. The move to lunch will now give all attendees an opportunity to play along as well. This should be a fun light activity during our Wednesday lunch, while at the same time checking everyone’s safety knowledge.
Other sessions throughout the week include a number of breakout sessions on Tuesday afternoon with additional time allocated to each session to be able to have our panels of experts discuss the relevant topics in detail, while still allowing time for attendee questions through our meeting app.
We are also pleased to present a plenary session discussing product safety through a parent’s eyes, which will feature a number of parent advocates who will offer their unique perspectives on product safety, after losing a loved one to a product incident. This is a perspective we don’t always get to hear and we appreciate the speakers taking the time to participate.
Other sessions include discussions involving voluntary standards; a look at smart products and what consumers expectations are; the consumers role in product safety; a look at company responsibilities as it relates to safety testing and analysis; a discussion of safety messaging to consumers; what to expect when you meet with Commission staff and how marketing strategies can enhance a retailers product compliance program. These and many other sessions are listed on our website under the 2020 Annual Symposium AGENDA. Updates are made daily. You can also check out our line up of SPEAKERS, SPONSORS and EXHIBITORS who will be at the Symposium. We appreciate the support of attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors.
Registration is still open and we’ve added an additional nearby hotel with available rooms at a special ICPHSO rate. Don’t wait to book your room, since the rooms are going fast. Be sure to also check out the Job Matching program which has become a mainstay of our Annual Symposium. As you can see, it’s going to be a busy week.
Looking forward to seeing you in Orlando,
Marc J. Schoem
